This is pretty cool and as it states this is not an apples to apples comparison and shows what 3D printing can do. I am guessing the only cost of the 3D device is the material and of course having a 3D printer. You may need to turn up the volume to hear.
This is a man born without a hand. The 3D hand works amazingly well. The finger movement is better on the 3D hand by comparison. There’s pros and cons with both but the big difference is the price. BD
I recently had the opportunity to work with a great guy named Jose Delgado, Jr., a 53-year old who was born without most of his left hand. I made a 3D printed prosthetic hand for Jose and, after using it for a while, I asked him to give me some honest feedback of how it compares to his more expensive myoelectric prosthesis. This is obviously not an "apples to apples" comparison in terms of the devices, but the real value of a prosthesis comes from how useful it is on a day-to-day basis, and that is the focus of the comparison here.
A big thanks to the great work of those who contributed to the Cyborg Beast prosthesis, including Jorge Zuniga, Frankie Flood, Ivan Owen, David Orgeman, and others in the e-Nable community.
