“Terrifying Doctor’s True Confessions” - True or False, Only The Shadow Knows…

You have to take this with a grain of salt of course as there’s no real way to tell if any of this is real, image but it’s highly entertaining.  Some folks really got creative and and this is done by Buzz Feed and people lie all the time on the internet.

I thought was amusing thus here’s the video and don’t take it seriously as this is probably a bunch of clinicians trying to think up the most outrageous lie they could think of.

This is a shoot off of an app called Whisper where people can make anonymous confessions and there’s a whole series of them with people in different occupations, like bartenders for one and just other crazy things people like to say.

There’s no HIPAA here:)  BD

The Impact of Self Driving Cars on Healthcare (Humor)

image

This is too funny and from the Conan collection.  Hey turn these things loose and fill up the ERs.

What does it really mean to have a self driving car?

There’s nothing that makes you feel the least bit threatened.

We have problems now with cars that don’t drive themselves, whoops this is not GM.

Great for seniors too:)  BD

Spurious Correlations - Per Capita Consumption of Cheese As Correlated With Number of People Who Died Tangled Up In Their Bed Sheets! I Found Where All These Obscure Studies Originate:)

This is a funny page with making comparisons with queries on items that are not any way related just to prove a point that you can query any old data base with another and come up with some charts and real convincing stuff.  This page is amazing and I think I have read some of these studies.  I say all the time I used to be a query monster and that any couple of data bases can be queried together to create a new and these guys got my heart here!  I love it.  If you want more on this topic, scroll on down to my footer and watch video #1 about quantitated justifications for things not true or click here or here for more.   Look at this chart, amazing is it not..look how close the numbers run:)

Look at how much chicken we consume as it directly relates to how much oil the US Imports!

Here’s a video from the author below that explains what this is all about with correlations.  Some he says have meaning and some don’t and it’s up to us to figure it out and it sure seems we see stuff in the news like the charts above sometimes:)

Sometimes we don’t have a scientist to make that decision either but if it looks like people will read it, then it run:)  BD

Microsoft’s Cortana And Apple’s Siri Personal Mobile Assistants Duke It Out - Humor (Video)

This is so funny and nice to see some potshots here and there.  Arsenio Hall does it.  This could really be fun!  Imagine what this can do for healthcare (grin), what would they call patients and doctors (grin).  I have been using the Bing Speech Assistant for quite a while now on my Windows phone it works great so the new Cortana features will be interesting to explore.  BD

Arsenio Hall is an American actor, comedian best known for hosting The Arsenio Hall Show which was imagerecently revived from September last year. Microsoft revealed Cortana digital assistant for the first time last week and it created lots of positive press for Microsoft. In this show, Arsenio was shown using Cortana and Siri for completing a task and things get out of control when Microsoft’s Cortana and Apple’s Siri started a conversation between themselves. This is just for fun, so watch the video above and enjoy it.

CMS Issues Hardship Exception Information - Who’s Going to Administrate All Of This and Keep Track? Just Get Your Vendor To Vouch for You? Extension Would Have Been Much Simpler In View of All the Other Algorithmic Complexities Happening With Obamacare At Present…

image

That’s right this come from the same folks that put out Healthcare.Gov.  It’s amazing in a time where folks in technology are looking to “simplify” some rules and technology but CMS prefers to add more complexity, and that’s the way I see it after reading the documents.  For goodness sakes a delay would have been a heck of a lot easier to keep track of and monitor for compliance.  Leave to HHS and CMS to make things difficult and confusing to an already over loaded healthcare system.

Here’s the application…

Here’s the guide for eligible professionals for exception…

Here’s the CMS page with the rest of the forms if these two don’t apply to you.  You know what, is a contract going to be awarded for the tracking of the Hardships now?  Fro the archives, link below, those Senators better get that Office of Technology Assessment back to explain some of this stuff to them.

Latest Letter From GOP Senators Regarding Health IT Adds Real Urgency to Bring Back the Office of Technology Assessment for Congress–It Is Getting Stranger All the Time With So Many Not Understanding IT Complexities

Ok this is going to be good when the GOP Senators digest all of this, they wanted an explanation.  If nothing else this will keep them busy monitoring and asking a lot of questions and there will be plenty of those.  Again, what’s the matter with these folks at CMS; do they like to make things complex?  It’s not like the old days when everything was in silos and easier to monitor.  It sounds like all you need to have is your vendor agree they had issues and by today’s standards, well who has not had some kind of issue, whether it’s meaningful use or not.  These folks are backing themselves into a difficult corner here, but they are focused on “verbiage” and not code or data mechanics, and that’s what you get from those who don’t have the data mechanics somewhere in the background or thinking.  They seem to forget we all this going on over here with complex algorithmic formulas and insurers getting more quants on board for their math models too.

Obamacare - One Big “Attack of the Killer Algorithms” No Matter Which Direction You Turn, Compounded With a Lot of Government and Consumer “Algo Duping”….

If hospitals met Meaningful Use in 2013, they will be excluded from the payment adjustment and do not have to submit a Hardship Exception.  They still have until July 1, 2014 to attest and avoid payment adjustment.

These hardships can be filed year after year up to five years…heck all the vendors are going to have issues by that time:)

One more item from the CMS page “Hand written applications may delay processing”…kind of interesting statement since we are talking about incentives for electronic medical records stimulus money.

Sure wished these folks at CMS knew how to model a bit better.  After reading all of this I think everyone might just jump in here and file one in the interest of having one in file in case things change then they won’t have to scramble and do one later.  BD

Correlation is not causation, but only a few days removed from a group of GOP senators’ request for clarification about the meaningful use hardship exception the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has now provided more details.

The federal agency responsible for the oversight of the EHR Incentive Programs has made several resources available via its website, including the hardship exception applications for eligible professionals and hospitals as well as tipsheets for each group of eligible providers. “Hardship exceptions will be granted only under specific circumstances and only if CMS determines that providers have demonstrated that those circumstances pose a significant barrier to their achieving meaningful use,” the federal agency indicates.

An addition to the list of reasons for applying for a meaningful use exception concerns 2014 vendor issues, which CMS defines as a provider being  “unable to obtain 2014 certification”  or “unable to implement meaningful use due to 2014 EHR certification delays.”

President Obama Appears on “Between Two Ferns” - Drives A Lot of Traffic to Healthcare.Gov Today (Humor)

This worked as far as getting traffic as has been reported on the web.  It drags a little bit at theimage beginning but kicks in later when the discussion moves to Healthcare.Gov…”it’s working now” President Obama says…

The questions are pretty funny and this was the first I have seen this show.

He asks about the websites the President visits…”let’s get this out of the way” he states…

And then it moves on to spider bites…BD

Supersmoker Bluetooth Electronic Cigarette With a Speakerphone That Plays Music, Will This Be Arriving At Your Local CVS Store Soon?

Ok I had to say that in the title…as marketing and what folks and corporations today imageis pretty nuts and so this is product so I guess with the Bluetooth connection here they want to make sure they get one of these e-cigarettes Bluetooth devices  in your hands, even to just carry around as a microphone and music player, as that would be advertising for them, a strange form of “product placement”…(grin).

This was just one of those oddities that I couldn’t pass up.  So again you have the device as a microphone and music player and never have to even look at the e-cigarette part of it.

It has buttons on it to make your cell phone hands free and has a USB charger.  CVS was so outrageous with their tobacco campaign and least we forget they had two stores busted by the DEA last year for oxycontin rolling out the doors too so this is just kind of fun to poke back a little bit as the tobacco announcement which I’m sure helped push some of the stock buy back they have on going on to move a little faster.   What will we see next?

CVS Tobacco Announcement–Good Marketing, Good Ethics, Good PR, But What Does It Have To Do With Filling Prescriptions And What Will Replace The Revenue Streams…
Blue Tooth Supersmoker:)

We've been punked, right? This thing can't possibly actually exist. We've seen plenty of ridiculous inventions in our day, but a combination electronic cigarette and speakerphone? What the what? According to the people behind this abomination, the Supersmoker Bluetooth "aesthetically combines the convenience of electronic smoking with modern-day technology." (Given that there are bigger fish to fry here, we'll forgive them for calling a speakerphone "modern-day technology.") From what we can tell, the Supersmoker Bluetooth is real, and it's available now from a Dutch e-tailer in black, silver and gold for the princely sum of €84.90 (about $117). Oh, and it plays music, too.
