Complexities Are Winning - Medicare Principal; Deputy Administrator Calling It Quits - Time For Folks To Come Out of “The Grays” And Look at the Reality of the Complex Systems We Built - Beyond Humans And Even the Machines To Handle At Times-IT on Overload

Help…throw a life line seems to be the calling today.  If you have read my blog long enough then are no surprises as I have been journaling this for quite a while while most everyone else was on a long Spring break.  There’s nothing wrong with these folks but it’s time for some Data Sleuths to move in as the system grew to complexities beyond what a normal figurehead or lawyer can handle today with government work.  It’s even a tough job for technologists to handle at times as it’s that complex.  Programming is freaking difficult and takes time.

If you didn’t get this message with the roll out of Healthcare.Gov, well get it now, ok? image73 Personally myself being a former programmer and wired the way I am I have been having these kind of failure nightmares for the last 6 years.  Ask anyone who knows me and you hear the same thing all the time, it’s the math and proprietary code that’s an issue and not just in healthcare but in the world.  Scroll down and watch the 4 videos in my footer and see what I mean as these folks taking time out to explain and everyone of them is smarter than me.  It’s all been modeled this way.  Furthermore, there’s no ethics in computer code, just people that create it to execute and there’s the catch.

Limitations And Risks Of Machine Ethics (That Really Don’t Exist) - Abstract Basically Substantiating the Existence of What I Coined As “The Attacks of the Killer Algorithms”…

We have also had several members of Congress leave and retire as they are over their heads too and refuse to get an agency to help them decipher what’s going on and some like to sit around and talk about abortions instead as they understand that topic.  Doesn’t do any good but it must give them some feeling of accomplishment is all I can say.  Good old Ted Cruz is always good for a real distraction and actually is my poster boy for restoring the Office of Technology Assessment as a non partisan tool to help Congress, that’s is if they will accept it.

I like Elizabeth Warren a lot and sadly I don’t want to see her too go down the same road as Kathleen Sebelius former heard of HHS and Mary Jo White, head of the SEC.  They are way over their heads and have no data mechanics knowledge to understand how some of the complex technologies work, and it aint like the old days and you can’t cover up.  Software and software platforms build on themselves and each layer costs money and now we are to the point to where we really have to look and make a decision as to what’s really needed as the cost will eat up everything else.  I know it’s a hard nut as you see millions tossed at start ups that will fall by the wayside every day in the news but “the real world” doesn’t have that kind of money, that’s funding for most of what is “virtual” out there.  Real world stuff we need, virtual is an option.

Virtual Worlds, Real World We Have A Problem And It’s A Big One With A Lot of Gray Areas Finding Where The Defining Lines Exist, Confusing Many With A Lot of Weird Values And Strange Perceptions…

This unwelcomed phenomena that exists today…”The Grays”….

Big turn over this year too for hospital CEOs..everybody is so frigging miserable because we have built systems that everyone hates as “people don’t work that way”…and it’s very hard to make intuitive systems that people like a challenge to every developer.  The AMA wants simpler Meaningful Use and so do I as software systems along with expenses for them layered on top of one another we have some monster systems that are not easy to manage and when a novice executive is at the top of the heap and says things that are not true a whole world of tech folks sit back and shake their heads.

I’ve been watching this nonsense on the MD Medicare Claim data keep playing out, it was a media event like I said a year ago, and just because data is now available doesn’t make this a big phenomena and sure people will fiddle around with it and write a few data stories or maybe a little more will happen, but for God’s sakes it’s not some big huge revelation that touches any consumer directly and I guess the press maybe found this out?

So it makes sense that folks want out of the virtual worlds and want to come back to the real world.  Sure we need technology and algorithms to help us manage but not when it’s to the point where people can’t tell the difference.  Spend all your time on Facebook in the virtual world if you like but when you come back it’s the real world in your face.  People that grew up with technology and made a lot of money like Larry Ellison are also issuing warnings and again who better to listen to.

We finally are figuring out that data selling is messing with everything out there with tons of flawed data that people read on their screen and think it’s all true, and this part is getting worse and I can say thank goodness for one thing is that clinical data by comparison is still pretty pure and not as corrupt.  When one does walk away from some virtual madness that is created it feels like a big burden has been lifted off your shoulders I think I can safely say everyone that walks will tell you that today.  So in a way I’m scolding everyone I guess for higher expectations and perceptions that what can be built and in what time frame..wake up.  If you think I’m crazy about math models and algorithms then check out this link as here’s another one in agreement and retweeting some of my stuff and he’s much smarter than me too.

What Can Healthcare Learn From Aviation? Watch Your Models As The virtual World Can Be Far Different From the Real World When It Comes to Designing And Implementing Software & Hardware

Doctors deal with the real world every day, and there’s name for it: patients and an frigging algorithm is not going to take their place.  Algorithms will help us get smarter, etc. but this is one area to where we want humans.  For those still put faith in economists with the times we live in today, watch this video clip and it’s also #2 in the footer..so we can pretty much discount what they say as technology is ruling them pretty useless too, not their fault but it is what it is.

All eyes from the viewpoint of the World Privacy Forum are on the US with the insane “scoring” we have occurring in the US and maybe it’s easier for those looking in to see what those from the inside can’t see.

Expect more to walk as banks, insurers and several companies in order to profit have created complexities that are bringing things to a standstill and again “people can’t work that way”…so who’s next…watch the news to see who’s the next one to get the “complexity monkey” off their back.  It’s time to come to our senses and realize what virtual and real world values are and weed what we “don’t” really need out of the virtual worlds and I’ll that up for you to decide what you think should be eliminated as code runs “hog ass wild” out there.   BD

The Obama administration's top Medicare official is stepping down from his post. CMS Principal Deputy Administrator Jonathan Blum has been with the agency for more than five years.
CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner announced Blum's resignation, effective May 16, in an e-mail to staff.

In addition. Blum helped oversee the unprecedented release earlier this month of detailed Medicare payment data for 880,000 physicians.
Blum was the Obama administration's first political appointee to the CMS in March 2009. Before that he worked on Medicare issues at the Office of Management and Budget. He also served as a top healthcare staffer for then-Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.).
